A brand-new original series for Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra (MadoDora), “Puella Magi Sorana Magica ~Our Fates, Our Futures~”, kicks off on Sunday, October 4, 2026. It’s set in the year 2225, an era in which humanity has spread across the entire solar system, and it runs five chapters long with full voice acting.
The staff list is what really grabs you. SF novelist Genge Kusano is writing the scenario, and Kokamumo is handling the original character designs. The moment a mobile game brings in an outside SF novelist for an event story, you know the ambition level is different. And the official line calls it “hard SF” outright.
Madoka Magica in space. Hard SF, no less. Honestly, the second I saw the announcement I said “oh, THAT’s the move” out loud. Magical girl stories tend to dig inward, into fate and emotion, but blowing the stage up to solar-system scale changes how you have to handle everything.
As someone who checks the Madoka Magica merch shelves at the Ikebukuro shops every week, I think this pivot is a real gamble. The people it hits will be obliterated by it, and the people it doesn’t will bail instantly. …I’m firmly on the “expecting great things” side, though. Here’s every detail we know so far.
- Launches Sunday, October 4, 2026, five chapters, fully voiced
- Set in the year 2225, with humanity spread across the solar system
- Scenario by Genge Kusano, original character designs by Kokamumo
- Protagonist Sorana Nagihoshi voiced by Asaki Yuikawa, theme song is “Navy Blue”
- 1.5th anniversary brings up to 170 free pulls and 24,000+ Magia Stones
- Madoka Magica’s first hard SF swing, and the concerns that come with it
First, let’s lock down the launch date and the basics.
When does “Puella Magi Sorana Magica” launch?
It launches on Sunday, October 4, 2026. It’s MadoDora’s first fully original new series, told as a story independent from the main Puella Magi Madoka Magica continuity.

| Series name | Puella Magi Sorana Magica ~Our Fates, Our Futures~ |
| Launch | Sunday, October 4, 2026 |
| Structure | Five chapters, fully voiced |
| Setting | The year 2225, the solar system |
| Positioning | MadoDora’s first fully original new series |
| Audio format | Full voice acting |
All five chapters won’t drop at once; they’ll roll out in sequence. Five fully voiced chapters is a serious amount of material for mobile game story content. It’s worth settling in and reading properly.
What kind of story is it? A stage set in the year 2225
The tagline the official account put out sums up the whole pitch.
The magical girls’ next stage is the sky (space).

The word for “sky” is given the reading “space.” It’s a play that doubles up with the protagonist’s name, Sorana Nagihoshi, so the “Sorana Magica” in the title points straight at the setting itself. That kind of layered wordplay feels very much like this series.
Here’s where the story starts. In the year 2225, humanity has spread across the entire solar system. In that era, Sorana Nagihoshi is living quietly in a corner of Earth when she gets a message from Lily, the streamer she’s a fan of, asking her to guide her through a submerged city. That, apparently, becomes the beginning of a story that shakes the fate of humanity.
It opens with a very of-the-moment hook, “the streamer you stan messages you,” and expands out to a solar-system-scale plot. The gap between the scale of the setup and the scale of the landing is enormous. Bridging that is where Genge Kusano gets to show off.
Also, has anyone really thought about the sheer destructive power of getting a DM directly from your fave? I couldn’t handle it. My hands would be shaking too hard to guide anyone anywhere.
What does a Genge Kusano scenario plus Kokamumo designs actually signal?
Scenario writer Genge Kusano is an SF novelist best known for The Last and First Idol. His style is to take an extreme premise and force it through with pure logic, which makes him a hard SF writer in the truest sense. That’s the basis for MadoDora billing this as “hard SF.”
Original character designs are by Kokamumo.
| Role | Credit |
|---|---|
| Scenario | Genge Kusano |
| Original character designs | Kokamumo |
| Protagonist: Sorana Nagihoshi | Asaki Yuikawa |
| Theme song | “Navy Blue” |
The Madoka Magica series started, via Gen Urobuchi’s script, by turning the magical girl template inside out. Seen that way, bringing an outside SF novelist into that lineage isn’t a swerve at all. In terms of breaking a genre’s rules using a different logic, it’s trying to do exactly what the original did.
Mobile game stories tend to drift toward “consuming character popularity.” Dropping in a writer who attacks through structure instead is an aggressive call for a long-running live-service title.
Who’s the protagonist, and what’s the theme song?
Protagonist Sorana Nagihoshi is voiced by Asaki Yuikawa. The setup puts a new character at the center of the new series and casts a new voice actor in the role.
The theme song is “Navy Blue,” and it starts streaming at midnight on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Same day as the story’s launch, and specifically the instant the date flips over.
The title “Navy Blue” reads like a double reference to the submerged city and to space, two kinds of blue. Deep blue is the color of the ocean and the color of outer space alike. It’s a word choice that ties the setup and the setting together in one phrase. Nicely done.
What do you get from the 1.5th anniversary campaign?
The new series was announced as part of the 1.5th anniversary event “Magia Day 2026 -1.5th Anniversary-.” The campaign has been running since 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Here’s the giveaway and content lineup laid out.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Free pulls | Up to 170 |
| Magia Stones | 24,000+ |
| New limited 5-star Memoria | Homura Akemi (Walpurgisnacht Rising) |
| Main story | Lighthouse Theater arc goes live |
| Start time | 9 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2026 |
Up to 170 free pulls plus 24,000-something Magia Stones is a generous haul for a 1.5th anniversary. It’s a genuinely great moment for new and returning players to jump in. The new series starts October 4, so even if you begin now you can catch up before the story does.
The new limited 5-star Memoria, “Homura Akemi (Walpurgisnacht Rising),” is clearly implemented with the film in mind. If you want Homura, this is your peak. Whether to throw all 170 pulls at the new Homura or save some for the Sorana Magica units is a tough call… but I’m the kind of person who can’t hold back, so I’ll probably melt the whole thing.
Madoka Magica’s first hard SF swing: where are the concerns?
The upside is obvious. A fully original new work with an outside SF novelist attached, five fully voiced chapters, a solar-system-scale setting. That’s a lot of investment for mobile game story content.
That said, let me be honest about the worries too.
1. If you’re here for “Madoka Magica-ness,” expect a temperature gap
Concentrating a magical girl’s fate and emotions has been this series’ flavor until now. Solar-system-scale hard SF is clearly a long way from that. For the crowd that loved “the closed world of Mitakihara,” this is likely to read as a different property entirely.
2. It’s unclear how much the main cast appears
Because this is a fully original new series, exactly how much Madoka Kaname, Homura Akemi and the rest of the main cast are involved hasn’t been revealed. If you play because “I won’t read it unless my fave is in it,” there still isn’t enough to go on.
3. Hard SF sits awkwardly with how people read mobile game stories
A style that stacks up worldbuilding and beats you with logic is the kind of fun that assumes you sit down and read. Skimming between farming runs will leave you behind. Five fully voiced chapters also pushes in the opposite direction from casual.
4. The release pace for all five chapters is unannounced
The October 4 launch is confirmed, but the schedule for chapter 2 onward hasn’t been published. There’s no reading, at this point, on how long it’ll take to wrap up.
Even so, I want to back the attempt itself. Madoka Magica was born from “breaking the rules of the magical girl genre.” At the 1.5th anniversary milestone, it’s trying to do that same thing again with SF as a different weapon. Compared to stacking up safe, unremarkable event stories, I think that’s a far more honest choice.

Summary: “Puella Magi Sorana Magica” launches October 4, so hold those 170 pulls
Here’s the confirmed information one more time.

The 1.5th anniversary campaign has been running since 9 p.m. on September 27. The new series launches October 4. You can walk into the new chapter holding up to 170 pulls and 24,000-plus Magia Stones, so if you’re going to start, this week is the best possible timing.
Bringing an outside SF novelist into a mobile game’s anniversary event and doing solar-system-scale hard SF across five fully voiced chapters. MadoDora’s 1.5th anniversary turned out to be the boldest version of what I could have imagined. In terms of flipping the magical girl template using a different logic, the same blood runs through it as the original Madoka Magica. That said, the crowd that has loved Mitakihara’s closed loop of fate will almost certainly see it as a separate thing, and how the main cast ties in is still unclear. The up-to-170-pull giveaway is a perfect opening for new and returning players. Whether you can settle in and read it properly is what decides whether you enjoy it.
It launches Sunday, October 4. Apparently they intend to take you from “your favorite streamer DMs you” all the way out to the solar system. That’s worth getting on board for.
