BANDAI SPIRITS’ Hobby Division is launching the board game GUNDAM ASSEMBLE worldwide on October 31, 2026. The price is 3,850 yen including tax (about US$25; converted at 153 yen = US$1). It’s a Gunpla-meets-board-game product in which you assemble roughly 5-centimeter Gunpla and fight with them.

Calling it “a board game you play with Gunpla” undersells what’s going on. The Gunpla aren’t pieces you push around the board; the kits you build are components of the game itself. Which means there’s an assembly step between opening the box and actually playing.

The simultaneous worldwide release is just as notable. This wasn’t aimed at the Japanese hobby market and exported later. A global rollout was the premise from day one.

I see plenty of these “adjacent to Gunpla” projects around Akihabara, but I can’t remember one that swung this hard at board games. Let’s work through it in order.

How Much Is GUNDAM ASSEMBLE? Price and Release Date

The price is 3,850 yen including tax, and the release date is October 31, 2026. It goes on sale worldwide at the same time.

Item Details
Product name GUNDAM ASSEMBLE
Publisher BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division
Release date October 31, 2026 (simultaneous worldwide release)
Price 3,850 yen including tax
Genre Board game
Hook Battle using roughly 5-centimeter Gunpla

Viewed strictly as a board game, 3,850 yen sits in the mid-price tier. But the math changes once you account for the fact that there’s Gunpla in the box. In an era when one HG-class kit runs around 2,000 yen (about US$13), a game system plus kits for 3,850 yen is not a bad ask at all.

What Does It Mean to Fight With 5-Centimeter Gunpla?

In GUNDAM ASSEMBLE, you move the game forward using Gunpla that stand roughly 5 centimeters tall.

That 5-centimeter figure is the key. A 1/144 HG stands around 13 centimeters; even an SD lands near 8. Five centimeters is smaller still. If the premise is lining several of them up on a board and moving them around, that size is inevitable. It falls right into the range that’s comfortable to grab and reposition by hand.

And the fact that assembly is wired into the play experience is what makes this product its own thing. Board game pieces are normally usable the second they come out of the box. Here you build yours before you send it onto the battlefield. It puts Gunpla’s joy of making and a board game’s joy of playing in series rather than parallel.

I’ll flag the downside too. Small kits are relatively tougher when it comes to clipping parts off the runner and cleaning up the gates. At the 5-centimeter class each part has less surface area, and come in wrong with the nippers and it chips easily. The audience buying this as a board game will include people who have never touched Gunpla, so how the ease of assembly has been engineered is something I want to see in person.

What’s the Goal Behind a Worldwide Release? Designing an On-Ramp to Gunpla

Going with a simultaneous worldwide release means Bandai is going straight at overseas Gunpla demand.

Gunpla has posted conspicuous growth in overseas markets in recent years. But the “you have to build it” hurdle is a tall one in regions where model kit culture never took root. Wrap the same thing in a board game package and the shape of the entry point changes, because you’re picking it up as “buying a game” instead of “building a plastic model.”

Keeping the price at 3,850 yen fits that same logic. It’s a realistic figure for an entry-level product, and an actual Gunpla kit is included. It’s priced so you can hand it to someone who doesn’t know Gundam at all, as a board game.

…Well, speaking as a guy who paints everything and modifies nothing, whether I’d have the willpower to paint a 5-centimeter kit is a separate conversation. This is clearly designed around playing with them straight out of the box, and I think that’s the right line to draw.

GUNDAM ASSEMBLE: Everything You Need to Know

Let’s run it back. GUNDAM ASSEMBLE is a board game from BANDAI SPIRITS’ Hobby Division, released worldwide on October 31, 2026. The price is 3,850 yen including tax.

You assemble roughly 5-centimeter Gunpla and fight with them, which packs Gunpla building and board game competition into a single box. For the detailed rules and the roster of included mobile suits, check the official site (as of October 2026).

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

For 3,850 yen you get Gunpla and a board game in the same box. Between that price point and the simultaneous worldwide release, the intent reads clearly: this is meant to be a new on-ramp to Gunpla. Making the build step part of the play experience is a genuinely interesting idea, and it produces a package that’s easy to hand to someone who has never built a kit. The worry is how buildable 5-centimeter-class kits actually are. Smaller parts raise the difficulty of gate cleanup, and that’s exactly where beginners trip first, so the engineering there should decide whether this lands.

Out October 31. As an excuse to talk someone into Gunpla, this one is excellent.
