My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis, the Dengeki Bunko rom-com, is getting a TV anime. EMT Squared is handling animation production, Atsushi Nigorikawa is directing, Keiichiro Ochi is writing the series composition, and Yuki Nakano is on character design. An announcement PV has gone live alongside anime setting art for the married leads, Roushi Saikawa and Ritsuka Saikawa.

The air window and the cast have not been announced as of October 2026. The source material is a Dengeki Bunko light novel by Riro Uzou (illustrations by Kei Hayashi), with four volumes out and a fifth due on November 10, 2026.

The title explains the entire premise. Two espers who used to try to kill each other inside rival organizations start dating after those organizations disband, get married, and turn into the kind of insufferably cute couple that kisses at the front door every single morning. That was supposed to be a one-and-done novel, and it got popular enough to keep going and land an anime. The funniest part is that the author himself says he is surprised.

This piece lays out what was announced, the fact that the air window and cast are still blank, where the source material stands, and how Dengeki Bunko has been lining up its anime announcements this year.

Let’s start with what’s actually locked in.

Who is making the My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis anime? EMT Squared, with Atsushi Nigorikawa directing

Animation production is at EMT Squared, with production support from Ankichi Koubou. Atsushi Nigorikawa directs, Keiichiro Ochi handles series composition, and Yuki Nakano is the character designer. The project is credited to the Mecha Amai Production Committee, and the announcement came with an anime PV, setting art for Roushi and Ritsuka Saikawa, and official social accounts.

Original author Riro Uzou had this to say alongside the announcement.

I originally built this as a single self-contained volume, so I’m genuinely stunned

Source:Anime!Anime!

That one line tells you a lot about the series. A story designed to end in one volume has its entire setup, escalation, and payoff packed inside that volume. In anime terms, that’s material that can wrap cleanly in a single cour. Unlike a series whose world balloons with every new book, it’s hard for the structure to collapse. The series composition job here is figuring out how to add four volumes’ worth of episodes without diluting the density of book one.

EMT Squared is the studio behind Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear and Train to the End of the World, and its strength is rendering the warmth of everyday life in soft strokes. This is a show where the center of gravity sits on the doorway kiss and the husband’s hang-ups rather than on flashy esper brawls, so that’s not a bad fit at all.

When does it air, and who’s in the cast? No official word as of October 2026

As of October 2026 there is no official announcement of the air window, the broadcaster, the streaming services, or the cast. What was revealed stops at staff, setting art, and the PV, and no voice actors appear in the PV either.

With Dengeki Bunko adaptations, it’s hardly unusual for more than a year to pass between the greenlight announcement and the broadcast. With setting art already out, the natural read is that the cast reveal is being held back as the centerpiece of the next information drop. That’s my read, not a fact; no official announcement schedule has been published.

The worry worth naming is that people will look at the title length and assume the content is thin. But the hook here isn’t the novelty of “what if two espers got married,” it’s the day-to-day distance between a straitlaced wife and the husband she keeps throwing off balance. The reason the novels made it to a fifth volume is the dialogue, not the premise, and anime is the format that can sell that through performance. The cast reveal is the real main event.

How many volumes are out? Four from Dengeki Bunko, volume 5 on November 10, plus two manga volumes

The novels run four volumes from Dengeki Bunko, with volume 5 due on November 10, 2026. Riro Uzou writes and Kei Hayashi illustrates. Volume 1 shipped in October 2023. The manga adaptation, drawn by Shiima, has been serialized in Dengeki Maoh since November 2024, and two collected volumes are out from Dengeki Comics NEXT.

Format Status Next release
Novels (Dengeki Bunko) 4 volumes out (volume 1 in October 2023) Volume 5 on November 10, 2026
Manga (Dengeki Comics NEXT) 2 volumes out (art by Shiima, serialized in Dengeki Maoh) Unannounced

Here’s the setup. Roushi Saikawa and Ritsuka Yanagira belonged to rival esper organizations and spent their time as enemies; after those organizations disbanded they started dating and got married, becoming the sort of sickeningly sweet couple who never skip the “have a good day” kiss at the front door. The catch is that his wife is deeply proper, and the husband is stuck agonizing over how to close the last bit of distance between them. Trouble involving former colleagues and former enemies keeps tangling into that. It’s a domestic romantic comedy.

Four volumes in three years is a standard pace for Dengeki Bunko, and lining up the anime announcement and the volume 5 release within a single month is a sales strategy you can read at a glance. If you want to start with the novels, volume 1 was written as a self-contained story, so one book is enough to decide.

What else was announced at Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival Online 2026?

This adaptation was announced during Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival Online 2026, streamed on ABEMA. Dengeki Online reports that the same stream also revealed that an anime project for Kochira, Shuumatsu Teitai Iinkai. is in the works.

Dengeki Bunko has kept a steady drumbeat of rom-com adaptations going in recent years. These two pull in different directions, one about a couple after the wedding and one about the end of the world, but both are the type whose title fully explains the content from volume 1 onward. Plenty of people hate long titles, but judged on adaptation batting average, the approach still works.

Personally, I think the rise of rom-coms that start after the wedding is a good trend. There is a real audience that has had enough of stories stretching out the will-they-won’t-they, and this series aimed at that audience from the first page. I’m twice-divorced so I’m hardly the guy to say it, but things get more interesting after the wedding.

Wrap-up: EMT Squared animating, air window and cast unannounced, volume 5 on November 10

My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis is getting a TV anime. EMT Squared is animating, Atsushi Nigorikawa directs, Keiichiro Ochi handles series composition, and Yuki Nakano designs the characters. The air window, broadcaster, streaming plans, and cast are all unannounced as of October 2026. The source novels run four volumes from Dengeki Bunko with volume 5 arriving November 10, 2026, and the manga is up to two volumes from Dengeki Comics NEXT. Further details will come through the official social accounts.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

A story written to end in one volume made it all the way to an anime. This series runs on married-couple dialogue rather than on a flashy premise, which makes the cast reveal the de facto main event. EMT Squared’s soft handling of everyday life points in the right direction. The air window is unannounced, and 2027 or later feels like the safe guess, though that’s only a guess.

The real story starts after the wedding. A series that bet everything on that one idea finally got paid.
