Six additional cast members and both theme songs for the new Oishinbo TV anime were announced on October 29, 2026. Nobuo Tobita plays Tozai Shimbun proprietor Daizo Ohara and Hiroshi Naka plays managing editor-in-chief Kyoichi Koizumi, while Hideo Tanimura goes to Toru Furusawa, Tomio Tomii to Kosuke Echigoya, Kinue Arakawa to Anzu Yaoya and Noriko Mitani to Yuko Ushita. The opening theme is PROMISE ME by Yui Makino, and the ending theme is Akashi by Skoop On Somebody.

The main cast reveal on October 2 had already confirmed Yohei Azakami as Shiro Yamaoka, Hitomi Sasaki as Yuko Kurita and Akio Otsuka as Yuzan Kaibara. This round fills in the newspaper side that launched the Ultimate Menu project in one go, which means nearly every relationship in the series now has a voice attached. The anime is still slated for 2027, produced by Shin-Ei Animation with animation production handled jointly by SynergySP and Vega Entertainment.

This article lays out the roles of the six new cast members, the two theme songs and the artists' comments, and what has not been announced yet. For anyone who watched the original anime, the real question all along was who would voice deputy chief Tomii.

Let us start with the six roles this announcement filled.

Shin Oishinbo Reveals Its Cast: Yohei Azakami as Shiro Yamaoka, Akio Otsuka as Yuzan Kaibara, Teaser Trailer Out Ahead of 2027

Who plays the Tozai Shimbun staff in the new Oishinbo anime?

Nobuo Tobita plays proprietor Daizo Ohara, Hiroshi Naka plays editor-in-chief Kyoichi Koizumi, Toru Furusawa plays culture desk chief Hideo Tanimura, Kosuke Echigoya plays deputy chief Tomio Tomii, and Anzu Yaoya and Yuko Ushita play reporters Kinue Arakawa and Noriko Mitani.

Role Cast Who they are
Daizo Ohara Nobuo Tobita Proprietor of the Tozai Shimbun. The man who proposed the Ultimate Menu
Kyoichi Koizumi Hiroshi Naka Managing editor-in-chief and board member
Hideo Tanimura Toru Furusawa Deputy managing editor and head of the culture desk. Mild-mannered and widely respected
Tomio Tomii Kosuke Echigoya Deputy chief of the culture desk. Henpecked at home and somehow impossible to dislike
Kinue Arakawa Anzu Yaoya Culture desk reporter. A former delinquent gang girl
Noriko Mitani Yuko Ushita Culture desk reporter

Putting Nobuo Tobita and Hiroshi Naka at the top of the org chart says a lot about how much weight this production wants up there. Ohara is the man who dreamed up the Ultimate Menu in the first place, and the one who ties the newspaper's fortunes to a duel with Kaibara. Tobita's voice, gentle but never yielding, fits that proprietor exactly. Koizumi is the man squeezed between his boss and the newsroom floor, and Naka's weathered low register should bring out how bitter that squeeze tastes.

Then there is deputy chief Tomii. He is the role that sets the temperature of Oishinbo, the guy who kept stirring up every scene in the original with his "good food is good food" routine. Kosuke Echigoya has a long track record with comic middle-aged parts, and for a henpecked Tomii I cannot think of a better pick. Kinue Arakawa's former-gang-girl backstory and her reporter pairing with Noriko Mitani are also essential to recreating the office scenery of the manga. Casting all of this out means the production is serious about the newsroom slapstick.

Who sings the new Oishinbo anime theme songs?

The opening theme is PROMISE ME by Yui Makino, and the ending theme is Akashi by Skoop On Somebody. Both were revealed for the first time in the October 29, 2026 announcement.

Makino said she read the manga as a child and called it an honor to open a work that keeps shining across generations. For Skoop On Somebody, TAKE submitted a comment on behalf of the group.

Being offered the ending theme for an anime I personally love had all of us absolutely thrilled

TAKE also spoke about looking up to Shiro Yamaoka's pursuit of the real thing, and about sensing something fated in the group reaching its 30th anniversary in 2027. Skoop On Somebody is a soul unit that debuted in 1997, so a 30th anniversary landing on top of the broadcast really is a piece of timing. The original Oishinbo anime put a grown-up ballad in the ending slot to let the taste of each episode linger, and a soul-heavy track like Akashi carries on that lineage.

Makino's casting makes sense too, for a show where food and human drama share the screen. The expansive voice she built up on ARIA and My-HiME is going to shoot the moment a dish starts steaming, not the morning-news bustle of the Tozai Shimbun newsroom. Even the title PROMISE ME hints at a promise between Yamaoka and Kurita, or between father and son.

When will the new Oishinbo anime broadcaster and season be announced?

As of October 2026, there is no official announcement of a broadcaster or a broadcast season. All we know is the timing, 2027, with no word on whether it will be terrestrial TV, satellite, or streaming-first.

Item Status (as of October 29, 2026)
Broadcast timing Planned for 2027
Broadcaster and season Not announced
Main cast Shiro Yamaoka: Yohei Azakami, Yuko Kurita: Hitomi Sasaki, Yuzan Kaibara: Akio Otsuka
Tozai Shimbun cast Six roles announced October 29
Theme songs OP: PROMISE ME by Yui Makino / ED: Akashi by Skoop On Somebody
Director Kenichi Nishida
Series composition Takahiro Nagano
Character design Nozomi Kawashige
Production Shin-Ei Animation
Animation production SynergySP and Vega Entertainment

Look at the order of reveals and a rhythm appears: a teaser in September, the main cast on October 2, the newspaper staff and theme songs on October 29. Roughly one drop a month. At this pace, the next one should be either the Gourmet Club side of the cast or the broadcaster. The original anime ran on the Nippon TV network from 1988, but with Shin-Ei Animation producing this time, there is no guarantee the old time slot simply comes back. We wait for the next release.

The one I am personally itching for is the casting of Ichiro Dan of the Daiken Company, who shows up as the judge presiding over the cook-offs. He falls for Kurita at first sight and forms a triangle with Yamaoka, so he is a linchpin of the new series, and his name still has not appeared. Lock that in and every piece of the relationship map is in place.

Summary: the new Oishinbo has its newsroom, leaving the broadcaster and Ichiro Dan

On October 29, 2026, the new Oishinbo TV anime announced six Tozai Shimbun cast members and its theme songs. Daizo Ohara is Nobuo Tobita, Kyoichi Koizumi is Hiroshi Naka, Hideo Tanimura is Toru Furusawa, Tomio Tomii is Kosuke Echigoya, Kinue Arakawa is Anzu Yaoya and Noriko Mitani is Yuko Ushita. The opening is PROMISE ME by Yui Makino and the ending is Akashi by Skoop On Somebody. The anime is planned for 2027, with the broadcaster and season still unannounced.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

Following the three leads with six newspaper roles in a single batch is proof that the new Oishinbo intends to play the Ultimate Menu as an office drama. The moment Tobita's proprietor and Echigoya's Tomii were locked in, a lot of the dread among viewers of the original must have evaporated. The theme songs pull the same trick, pairing two acts of a similar generation to grab both nostalgia and a current sound. All that is left is the broadcaster and the casting of Ichiro Dan. Once those land, it is time to do the homework.

In 2027 we get to hear deputy chief Tomii say good food is good food all over again. That alone is enough.
