Season 2 of the TV anime Akane-banashi starts in January 2027 on TV Asahi’s 24-station nationwide network in the IMAnimation block, plus BS Asahi and other channels. On October 25, 2026 the key visual and a teaser PV for the Zenza Shugyo arc (roughly, the opening-act apprenticeship arc) went out, along with two cast additions: Taku Yashiro as Konjakutei Asagao and Yoji Ueda as Tsubakiya Hassho. Season 2 covers the arc in which Akane, now out of high school, formally becomes a pupil of Shiguma Arakawa and begins her apprenticeship at the Yasakatei theater under the name Akane Arakawa.
The season’s broadcast window and time slot were already locked in back on June 20, 2026. What is new this time is that there is artwork to look at, and that the master-class roster has grown by two more names. June had already brought Hochu Otsuka, Ryotaro Okiayu, Hiroshi Naka, Mutsumi Tamura, Shinichiro Miki and Tomokazu Seki as the masters of the Rakugo League, and now the Konjakutei and Tsubakiya pair joins them.
This article covers what is in the key visual, who the two new cast members are playing, what the Yasakatei and the Zenza Shugyo arc actually are, and the full shape of the season 2 cast including the June announcements. The exact premiere date and streaming plans are unannounced as of October 26, 2026.
Start with the key visual.
What is in the Akane-banashi season 2 key visual?
The background of the key visual is the Yasakatei. It is one of the standing yose theaters where rakugo is performed almost every day, afternoon and evening, and it is the main setting of season 2. Up front is Akane taking her first step as a rakugo performer, with Renmaya Karashi and Hikaru Takaragi around her and the heavyweights of rakugo lined up beyond them, so the rivals and seniors to come are all packed into one image.
The teaser PV released the same day is built around training scenes at the Yasakatei. Rather than a single high-stakes showdown like season 1’s Karaku Cup, it conveys the air of an apprenticeship made of daily stage time and backstage chores piling up. Akane working the dressing room as a zenza, running into seniors and masters day after day, is the backbone of season 2.
The masters who first appeared in season 1’s final episode have now been joined by these two. Given that the key visual is described as showing the heavyweights of rakugo, season 2 is clearly a season where the master-class characters multiply. Rolling out the cast in stages over four months, from June to October, is itself a sign of how many faces there are.
Who do Taku Yashiro and Yoji Ueda play?
Taku Yashiro plays Konjakutei Asagao and Yoji Ueda plays Tsubakiya Hassho. Both were announced as season 2 cast additions on October 25, 2026, and both are rakugo performers.
| Role | Voice actor | Announced |
|---|---|---|
| Konjakutei Asagao | Taku Yashiro | October 25, 2026 |
| Tsubakiya Hassho | Yoji Ueda | October 25, 2026 |
In a comment accompanying the announcement, Taku Yashiro described feeling a powerful pull from the manga from a first reading, because for all that it takes on the huge subject of rakugo, it is also a coming-of-age story, a tale of human feeling and a piece of youth drama. Yoji Ueda looked back on growing up in a house where flipping on the TV or the radio meant classic performance arts came out of it, credited that environment for the work that followed, and spoke about taking on the role of a master.
The house names Konjakutei and Tsubakiya belong to lineages separate from the Arakawa school. Season 1 largely stayed inside the Arakawa family’s own affairs, but in the Zenza Shugyo arc Akane shares a dressing room with masters and apprentices from other houses. Taku Yashiro and Yoji Ueda are, in effect, playing rakugo performers who come in from outside. Detailed character profiles for the roles were not on the official site’s characters page as of October 26, 2026.
What is the Zenza Shugyo arc, and how does it follow season 1?
The Zenza Shugyo arc is the chapter in which Akane, having graduated from high school, formally enters Shiguma Arakawa’s tutelage and begins training as a zenza, the lowest rank, under the name Akane Arakawa. It is set at the standing theater Yasakatei, where daily stage sets and dressing-room work are the path toward promotion to futatsume, the next rank up. It is the stage that follows the point where season 1’s Karaku Cup brought the story to a close.
The manga is by Yuki Suenaga (story) and Takamasa Moue (art), serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since February 2022. Season 1 aired from April to June 2026, directed by Ayumu Watanabe with animation production by Zexcs. Season 2 keeps the same team, and Keisuke Kuwata handles the theme song again after season 1. Rakugo supervision is credited to Kikuhiko Hayashiya.
A zenza is the first rank a rakugo performer holds: folding the kimono of masters and seniors, beating the drums, going up first to open the show. There is not much glamour in it, but it is a chapter the manga’s readers rate highly. With Hochu Otsuka and Tomokazu Seki among the masters, season 2 is built out of adult voices distinguishing themselves through this unglamorous stretch. As anime, the thing to watch should be the dressing-room relationships more than Akane’s time on stage.

Counting the six names from June and the two from October, the newly announced season 2 cast now stands at eight.

| October 25, 2026 | Taku Yashiro (Konjakutei Asagao), Yoji Ueda (Tsubakiya Hassho) | This round’s additions |
The role names and character details from the June announcement are laid out in an earlier article. Counting this pair, season 2 brings in eight new faces at master level alone. Anna Nagase and the rest of the season 1 leads are returning, and the Zenza Shugyo arc is the story of Akane getting dropped alone into that crowd.

Wrap-up: what October 25 revealed about Akane-banashi season 2
Akane-banashi season 2 airs from January 2027 on TV Asahi’s 24-station nationwide network in the IMAnimation block, plus BS Asahi and other channels. On October 25, 2026 the key visual for the Zenza Shugyo arc, set against the Yasakatei, went out with a teaser PV, and two cast additions were announced: Taku Yashiro as Konjakutei Asagao and Yoji Ueda as Tsubakiya Hassho. Ayumu Watanabe directs, Zexcs animates and Keisuke Kuwata does the theme song, keeping season 1’s lineup intact. The exact premiere date and streaming are unannounced as of October 26, 2026.
There is artwork now, and two more masters on the roster. Season 2 is not a one-shot showdown like the Karaku Cup; it is the story of stacking up days in the Yasakatei dressing room. Casting eight new faces, from Hochu Otsuka to Taku Yashiro, who are all rakugo performers tells you the Zenza Shugyo arc is the chapter where a young performer flails among adults.
This will be a season you watch for the dressing room rather than the stage. When the first episode lands in January, start by listening for the drums.
