Lieutenant Matilda Ajan from Mobile Suit Gundam is getting a painted, fully finished figure in MegaHouse’s GGG line. It was built from a new illustration drawn by Tsukasa Kotobuki and supervised in detail by the artist himself, priced at 22,000 yen (about US$144, converted at 153 yen to the US dollar) including tax, with shipping planned for late June 2027. Pre-orders opened at 10:00 a.m. on October 8, 2026 at Premium Bandai, hobby shops nationwide, and online retailers.

She was the first older woman Amuro ever looked up to. The one who flew in on a Medea transport with supplies and quietly kept an eye on the kids aboard the White Base. That Matilda. Not Char, not the Gundam itself, but a supporting character from the One Year War, getting a 22,000-yen figure all to herself. That alone tells you exactly who this project is aimed at, doesn’t it?

In this article I’ve pulled together the product specs, the two posing options, where this fits in GGG’s illustrator collaboration series, and where to pre-order plus the fine print. And then I’ll explain why a guy in his mid-forties opened the pre-order page with one eye on his wallet.

Let’s start with the numbers. 22,000 yen is not cheap by any measure. Even so, once you’ve seen everything announced so far, you start to see why “expensive” isn’t the end of the conversation.

How much is GGG Matilda Ajan feat. Tsukasa Kotobuki, and when does it ship?

The price is 22,000 yen (about US$144) including tax, with shipping planned for late June 2027. The full official name is “GGG Series Mobile Suit Gundam Matilda Ajan feat. Tsukasa Kotobuki,” and according to MegaHobby, MegaHouse’s official hobby information site, the set includes the painted finished figure, one set of replacement parts, and a dedicated base.

At roughly 250mm tall, it will sit on a shelf next to standard 1/7 scale figures without looking out of place. GGG has a long-standing reputation for the texture of Federation uniforms and normal suits, and the official listing specifically says this one was “produced with attention to even the finest details of the outfit.” Matilda’s uniform is distinctive even among Earth Federation Forces designs from the One Year War, pairing a stand-up collar with a tight skirt, and the quality here will come down to the seams and the way the fabric falls.

If I had to name a concern, it’s that no order deadline has been officially announced. The only note attached says the order period “may change without prior notice,” so the chance of the window closing while you’re still thinking it over is not zero.

Cap on or cap off: how do the two poses differ?

Swap in the replacement head and arm parts and you can recreate two different situations: Matilda wearing her cap, and Matilda with it off. According to HOBBY Watch, one configuration has her saluting with documents in hand, every inch the supply corps lieutenant, while the other shows her bare-headed.

That choice captures the two sides of Matilda exactly as they are. In front of Amuro she carried herself as a soldier, but she was also a woman about to marry Lieutenant Woody. Add or remove the cap and the viewer’s frame of mind shifts from “the lieutenant” to “Matilda.” As swap gimmicks go it’s understated, but the way it makes you choose is clever.

That said, since it is a swap system, whichever parts you aren’t displaying have to be stored somewhere. Small head parts are easy to lose, so plan on keeping the box itself. With Gunpla you could just paint the whole thing and be done with it; finished figures don’t give you that out, which is a little frustrating.

What is the GGG collaboration supervised by Tsukasa Kotobuki? The third entry after Haruhiko Mikimoto and Hiroyuki Kitazume

According to MegaHouse’s official blog, GGG’s illustrator collaborations follow on from collaboration items with Haruhiko Mikimoto and Hiroyuki Kitazume, and this new piece brings Tsukasa Kotobuki into the fold. The first entry in the collaboration, GGG Christina Mackenzie -INTO THE SKY-, drew so much demand that a reissue has been confirmed.

Tsukasa Kotobuki has been known for years for Gundam illustrations and manga adaptations. The sculpt was built from an illustration he drew specifically for this figure, and he supervised it closely from the prototype stage, so the usual “the face doesn’t match the illustration” problem is unlikely to crop up here. MegaHobby’s product description also promises that “the atmosphere of Kotobuki’s illustrations is expressed directly through the sculpt and paintwork.”

I’ll be honest: Matilda was the first older woman in Gundam I ever had a crush on. Not Sayla, not Lalah, but the lieutenant who showed up with supplies in a Medea. More than 40 years later, that same person is being sculpted in Kotobuki’s lines. Coming from a guy with two divorces behind him this may not mean much, but with projects like this my hands move before my wallet does.

Where can you pre-order the Matilda Ajan figure?

Pre-orders are being taken at Premium Bandai, as well as hobby shops nationwide and online retailers including Amazon and Rakuten. Orders opened at 10:00 a.m. on October 8, 2026, and as of October 13, 2026 it is still available to pre-order at each of them.

If you pre-order through Premium Bandai, shipping is charged separately. Prices and store bonuses vary from retailer to retailer at hobby shops and online stores, so compare total costs with shipping included before you commit. On a 22,000-yen item, picking a store based on the shipping difference is worth the effort.

Two things to watch. There’s no stated order deadline, and shipping is set for late June 2027, more than eight months out. Forgetting you ever placed the order and being startled when it turns up is a classic outcome with made-to-order items like this, so choose a payment method you won’t forget about.

Summary: Lieutenant Matilda figure price, release date, and where to pre-order

GGG Series Mobile Suit Gundam Matilda Ajan feat. Tsukasa Kotobuki is a painted finished figure priced at 22,000 yen (about US$144) including tax, shipping in late June 2027, standing roughly 250mm tall. Replacement head and arm parts let you choose between a cap-on and cap-off pose, with Inui handling the sculpt and Ekoshi the paintwork. Pre-orders have been open since 10:00 a.m. on October 8 at Premium Bandai, hobby shops nationwide, and online retailers, and no deadline has been announced.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

A supporting character from the One Year War, sculpted at the 22,000-yen tier from a new illustration supervised by the artist who drew it. That this project exists at all is a measure of GGG’s strength, and proof of how beloved Matilda still is. Designing it so the cap lets you switch between “the lieutenant” and “Matilda” is the work of someone who understands the character.

No order deadline has been announced. If you’re torn, placing the pre-order now and leaving the decision to your June 2027 self is one way to play it.
