Resonance of Fate, the RPG from tri-Ace, is getting a new piece of DLC called RESONANCE OF FATE/END OF ETERNITY ENHANCED REMASTER. It layers onto the Steam release of the 4K/HD EDITION from 2018, adding native 4K output, HDR, 120fps, re-upscaled character and background textures, and a 2x speed function. Release is planned for October 30, 2026, and it requires ownership of the base 4K/HD EDITION.

The Steam store page appeared out of nowhere on October 29. Roughly eight years after the 4K/HD EDITION launched, a DLC page simply materialized with no announcement and no teaser, and the DLC’s price was not displayed on the store as of October 30. There is no official word on whether the same enhancements are coming to the PS4 version of the 4K/HD EDITION, or whether a PS5 version will appear at all.

This article covers what the DLC changes, what is and is not confirmed about release date, price and platforms, what kind of RPG Resonance of Fate is in the first place, and the story of Leanne’s official X account, which stirred to life the same day after eight years of silence. The oddball that called itself a gunfire polyphony RPG on PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2010 has stepped back into the open in 2026.

Start with what actually changes.

What does the ENHANCED REMASTER DLC change?

The graphics options open up considerably, with support for native 4K output, HDR and 120fps. Character and background textures are re-upscaled with AI, and the resolution of in-game movies is lifted as well. A new 2x speed function doubles game speed, and Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean are added to the supported languages.

Item 4K/HD EDITION (2018) ENHANCED REMASTER DLC (2026)
Output resolution 4K supported (upscaled) Native 4K output
HDR Not supported Supported
Frame rate 60fps 120fps supported
Textures HD conversion. Free high-resolution texture pack available Characters and backgrounds re-upscaled with AI
Movies As in the original Upscaled to high resolution with AI
Game speed Normal speed only 2x speed function added
Languages Six: Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish Nine, adding Simplified and Traditional Chinese plus Korean
System requirements Windows 7 or later Windows 11, DirectX 12. Recommended: Core i5-8600K, 12GB RAM, GTX 1070

The 2x speed is the one that matters most, I think. Combat in Resonance of Fate is a semi-real-time system where three characters act in turn, and the aerial gunfire flourish known as Hero Action plays every single time. It looks great on a first viewing, but grinding and leveling mean watching the same flourish several hundred times. People have been asking for a way to skip it since 2010, and 16 years later a piece of DLC solves it. The texture re-upscale should pay off on distant background scenery, which still looked rough even after the 2018 HD pass.

Two things give me pause. The system requirements have been raised to Windows 11 and DirectX 12. The base 4K/HD EDITION ran on Windows 7, so anyone holding the Steam version on an older PC should check before buying the DLC. The other is that AI upscaling preserves a game’s original art direction to wildly varying degrees. Judging by the comparison shots on the store page, the textures are tightening up rather than softening, but whether the redrawn faces in the movies end up looking unnatural is something you can only judge on the real thing after release.

When does the DLC release, how much is it, and is it coming to PS4?

Release is planned for October 30, 2026. The Steam store page displays it as October 29 in US time. The price was not displayed on the store as of October 30, 2026, and there is no official word on whether it will be free or paid. As of October 2026, there is also no official announcement about a release for the PS4 version of the 4K/HD EDITION or about a PS5 version.

Item Status (as of October 30, 2026)
DLC release date Planned for October 30, 2026 (listed on Steam as October 29 in US time)
DLC price Not displayed
Requirements Steam version of RESONANCE OF FATE/END OF ETERNITY 4K/HD EDITION (about US$26)
Base game sale No sale as of October 30
Release for PS4 version No official announcement
PS5 version No official announcement
Development and publishing tri-Ace

The base 4K/HD EDITION costs about US$26, and its Steam user reviews sit at Very Positive with 80% of 988 reviews positive. It is worth remembering that tri-Ace publishes the base game itself. The original PS3 and Xbox 360 versions came from Sega, but from the 2018 remaster onward tri-Ace has been releasing it in-house. That makes it natural to read this DLC as tri-Ace acting on its own call, without waiting for a sign-off from Sega. The abruptness of a page going live with no announcement also makes sense for a small operation.

As for PS4 support, the nature of HDR and 120fps means it carries little meaning unless the target is a PS5. Whether tri-Ace ships this as a fresh PS5 version, handles it as a PS4 patch, or releases nothing at all is anyone’s guess. Personally I am in the camp waiting for a PS5 version, though the realistic answer is that the Steam reaction decides it.

What kind of RPG is Resonance of Fate?

It is an RPG released in January 2010 on PS3 and Xbox 360, developed by tri-Ace and published by Sega. On a ruined Earth, it tells a story of guns and bonds among the people living in a colossal tower called Basel. Combat is a gunfire polyphony RPG in which a party of three fights with firearms alone, defined by Hero Action, where you leap through the air while shooting, and by deep customization that lets you bolt your guns into monstrosities.

The three leads are Vashyron, Zephyr and Leanne. Living as odd-job contractors in Basel’s lower levels, they get dragged into the designs of the Cardinals in the tower’s upper reaches. tri-Ace is known for Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, but Resonance of Fate swings in a completely different direction from both series, with no swords and no magic anywhere in sight.

The originality of that combat has not faded. There is a two-stage structure where machine guns pile up Scratch Damage and handguns convert it into Direct Damage, so firing without thinking will never put an enemy down. Arrange your three characters’ movement lines into a triangle and you trigger a Tri-Attack, leaping through the air while unloading every round you have. Swallowing that logic is the wall, and once you have, going back to other RPGs stops being possible. The arrival of 2x speed is a big deal precisely because it lightens the trial and error of the “until it clicks” stretch.

Gun customization has you slot grips, barrels and scopes together like Tetris pieces to raise performance, and if the part shapes do not interlock, you cannot attach them. Plenty of people lost hours in there. The 4K/HD EDITION gave that customization screen an HD pass too, and the DLC’s texture re-upscale could push the material feel of the parts further still.

What is the Leanne account that posted for the first time in eight years?

On October 29, the same day the DLC store page went up, heroine Leanne’s official X account posted for the first time in more than eight years. It was an in-character post tied to promoting the 4K/HD EDITION.

Apparently this “4K/HD EDITION” has all sorts of amazing technology in it, but I’m terrible at pitching things, okay?!

Source:AUTOMATON (post from Leanne’s official X account)

Back when the game launched in 2010, Resonance of Fate was promoted through character accounts on X, then Twitter. Leanne’s account in particular became known for talking with a freedom that made her sound like a different person from the shy character in the game, and fans loved the routine of an official account mocking its own official line. Her self-deprecating “I’m terrible at pitching things” is exactly that old routine.

What this signals is that the DLC is not just a store page quietly slipped into place: tri-Ace is moving with intent to promote it. The studio deliberately woke an account that had been silent for eight years on the day the DLC went live. The store page simply came first in the announcement order, and it is fair to expect movie comparisons and a price reveal to follow. For my part, I would be delighted if Vashyron’s account woke up too.

Wrap-up: the Resonance of Fate DLC lands October 30, with price and PS4 support still to come

ENHANCED REMASTER, a DLC that adds native 4K, HDR, 120fps, AI re-upscaled textures and movies, 2x speed, and Chinese and Korean language support to tri-Ace’s Resonance of Fate 4K/HD EDITION, is planned for release on Steam on October 30, 2026. It requires ownership of the base game (about US$26), and the system requirements rise to Windows 11 and DirectX 12. As of October 30, 2026, there is no official announcement of the DLC’s price, a release for the PS4 version, or the existence of a PS5 version. On the same day, Leanne’s official X account posted for the first time in eight years.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

There is almost no precedent for a developer deciding on its own to add DLC to an RPG 16 years after release and eight years after its remaster. The contents answer the complaint fans have voiced since launch head-on, in the form of a 2x speed option, which makes this an honest move aimed squarely at the faithful. Just check two things before you buy: the price has not been posted, and the requirement has risen to Windows 11. If you are on the PS4 version, all you can do is wait for a PS5 release or further news.

The gunfire polyphony of 16 years ago returns at double speed. And if Leanne is awake, they mean business.
