Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo, the escape-room adventure known in Japan as Zatsuon-kei Shonen Shojo, arrives on Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2026 for US$13 (tax included). On the same day, the Steam version that has been out since September 17, 2025 gets a free update adding full voice acting. The announcement went up on November 1. Dunkhearts Inc. developed the game, and WhisperGames publishes it.

The game bills itself as a “trauma-resolution puzzle adventure,” and it is an escape-the-room ADV at heart. Six amnesiac kids wake up in a labyrinthine city that resembles Tokyo, Noise Scramble City, and collect “noise fragments” scattered around it to recover their memories, solving more than 40 puzzles on their way out. When the Steam version launched, Denfaminicogamer wrote that it was an easy recommendation for fans of Ace Attorney and Danganronpa.

Seven voice actors have been announced for the full voice update, led by Kazuki Asami as the protagonist Zena. This article covers the release date and price, how the game works, the cast, and where the Steam version stands along with its demo. I played the Steam demo on my Steam Deck, and the writing had a way of sounding out loud in my head even as plain text, so I am genuinely curious how much the voices change it.

*Prices in this article are converted from Japanese yen at ¥153 = US$1 (November 2026 rate).

Let’s start with the numbers.

Switch and Steam cost the same, and existing Steam owners get the voice acting at no extra charge. Adding full voice work more than a year after launch is not something you see often from an indie ADV. With the Switch release as the occasion, the studio is bringing its existing game up to the same state as a new one.

What kind of game is Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo? An escape ADV about collecting noise fragments to recover lost memories

Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo is an escape-room adventure in which six teenagers trapped in a labyrinthine city piece together “noise fragments” found on the streets to bring back their lost memories, then solve puzzles to get out.

The structure comes in three layers. First you explore the warped streets of Noise Scramble City and gather noise fragments. Then, combining those fragments reveals a character’s forgotten past, and the escape hints are buried in it. Finally, in scenes called “Absolute Dialogue,” you face whoever is blocking your escape and talk them through the wound they are carrying.

Element Details
Exploration Walk Noise Scramble City and collect noise fragments
Noise Forgotten traumatic memories. Combine the fragments and the past comes into view
Puzzles More than 40. Solutions are tied to character dialogue and flashbacks
Absolute Dialogue Talk down whoever blocks your escape and undo their emotional wounds
Endings Multiple endings that branch on your choices

Denfaminicogamer’s review praised how tightly the puzzle solutions are bound up with understanding the story, calling it the same flavor of fun as the courtroom sections of Ace Attorney or the trials in Danganronpa. The fact that IKUSA, a company that stages real-world escape-room events, handled the puzzle design is another distinguishing detail. These are not puzzles a game studio knocked out on the side; they are 40-plus problems laid out by professionals who design real escape rooms.

From what I played in the demo, the puzzles lean more “read carefully” than “flash of inspiration.” You cannot solve them without actually reading the dialogue. Which means the better you are at reading, the more you get out of it, and if the voices make the dialogue easier to absorb, the full voice update should affect the puzzle difficulty as well.

Who is in the cast? Kazuki Asami plays Zena, with seven roles announced

Seven cast members were announced alongside the full voice update. Kazuki Asami voices the protagonist Zena, Sohei Horikane plays Itsuki, Yukari Amane plays Honoka, Yohei Matsuoka plays Kaito, Hikaru Iida plays Hiyori, Masaya Miyazaki plays Souto, and Natsumi Murakami plays Specter.

Zena Kazuki Asami
Itsuki Sohei Horikane
Honoka Yukari Amane
Kaito Yohei Matsuoka
Hiyori Hikaru Iida
Souto Masaya Miyazaki
Specter Natsumi Murakami

Alongside the six teenagers, a seventh name sits in the list: Specter. The official site’s character page centers on the six, and it has not explained where Specter fits. Since Absolute Dialogue against “whoever blocks your escape” is the core system, I suspect the role is connected to that, but there is no official explanation.

There are performers beyond the announced seven. Yuhi Asagiri revealed on their own X account that they play Koga Segawa, which suggests several roles are missing from Famitsu’s write-up. For the full cast, we will have to wait for the official site to update.

How is the Steam version rated? 77 percent positive, with a three-stage demo

As of November 2, 2026, 77 percent of the Steam version’s 121 reviews are positive, giving it a “Mostly Positive” rating. The developers have posted store announcements saying they are improving the English localization based on feedback, and that the free full voice update lands on November 12.

121 reviews is not a lot. More than a year after launch, that count means this is still a game nobody in Japan has really heard of. The Switch release and the voice update are the move to change that. The 77 percent figure describes a split: it landed hard for the people it landed on, and missed for the rest. Opinions dividing over whether you enjoy reading-comprehension puzzles feels like the fate of every ADV in this lane.

Steam has a demo covering the first three stages. It runs through part of Hiyori’s chapter, so you can get a feel for noise fragments and Absolute Dialogue before buying the full game. There is no announcement of a Switch demo as of November 2026.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

Take the best parts of Ace Attorney and Danganronpa, then rebuild them as 40 problems designed by real escape-room professionals. That game is coming to Switch for US$13. The obscurity implied by 121 reviews is, flipped around, an ADV nobody has talked about yet. And once the dialogue is reaching your ears instead of only your eyes, reading-comprehension puzzles get easier to crack. I plan to start over from the beginning when the Switch version lands.

Noise with a voice attached stops being noise. November 12, back into Hiyori’s chapter.
