As of this year, November 1 is Pikmin day. In a Pikmin Day Direct published at 11 p.m. on October 31, Nintendo announced that it has designated November 1 as Pikmin Day. Shigeru Miyamoto himself showed up to deliver the news.

The reasoning behind the date is neat. When the series debuted in 2001, there were three colors of Pikmin, red, blue and yellow, and each of those three is being read as the numeral 1, giving you 11/1. Call it a stretch if you like, but as anniversaries go you will not find a cleaner arrangement for Pikmin.

And there was one more genuinely practical announcement. A demo for Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Test for Everyone!, which launches November 12, is scheduled to arrive on November 2. That’s hands-on time ten days before release. Pikmin Bloom is getting Secret Caves, a new way to play, plus tie-in features that connect to the Switch 2 version.

This article organizes everything officially announced in the Pikmin Day Direct, split into the demo’s contents, the Switch 2 version’s additions, the new Pikmin Bloom features, and what happens from November onward.

When does the Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition demo arrive, and how much of the game does it cover?

The demo is scheduled for November 2, and it includes two stages: Sun-Speckled Terrace from the early part of Pikmin 4, and Dandori Test for Everyone!. Save data carries over to the full game.

A demo with carryover is essentially just letting you play the opening of the full game early. Sun-Speckled Terrace is Pikmin 4’s tutorial-grade area, which makes it the right place to get a feel for handling Oatchi and the rhythm of exploration. Having the Dandori Test bundled in alongside it matters just as much, because it means you can try the brand-new content right away.

What’s new in the Switch 2 Edition? Voice commands for Oatchi and shared Joy-Con play

Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds four things: improved resolution, Wan Command for giving Oatchi orders through the console’s microphone, shared Joy-Con play support for Dandori Battle, and Dandori Test for Everyone!

The novelty act here is obviously Wan Command. You speak into the Switch 2’s built-in mic and your voice moves Oatchi. Since Oatchi in Pikmin 4 was always the partner you give orders to, it holds together as an input method. The catch is that you have to actually make noise, which clashes with the whole point of a Switch you can play on a train. Expect this one to split by use case.

The addition with real practical value is shared Joy-Con play for Dandori Battle. Another mode where two people split a pair of Joy-Con and compete on a single console is a completely different proposition when you have company over. Resolution improvements are never flashy, but this is a game about looking down on a swarm of Pikmin, so keeping those tiny bodies from mushing together genuinely helps.

One thing worth flagging: the Direct did not address the Switch 2 Edition’s price or how the upgrade pack is handled.

What are Pikmin Bloom’s Secret Caves? They tie into the Switch 2 version too

Pikmin Bloom is adding Secret Caves, a new way to play built around collecting treasures. The update is scheduled for this winter.

Here’s how it works. To enter a cave you need a map, which occasionally comes attached to postcards. Once you have one, you send Pikmin in and the expedition proceeds automatically. Battles with creatures break out along the way, and winning them earns you treasures. On top of that, taking the Dandori Test gets you a map to a special cave.

The notable part is the explicit statement that Secret Caves include tie-in features with Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition. A design where a phone app and a home console title trade rewards back and forth is an unusually bold step for Pikmin Bloom. The Direct did not spell out the specifics of that connection, so we are waiting on the official details when the winter update lands.

There’s a real-world event moving too. Pikmin Bloom Journey in Kobe runs November 21 and 22.

Who was the guest in the video? Fuka Koshiba appears, and Hello! Pikmin kicks off

The guest who turned up near the end of the video is actress Fuka Koshiba. Miyamoto introduced her by saying he plans to have her help build Pikmin up together from here.

Among Nintendo’s IPs, Pikmin is the one that has spent the longest searching for ways to extend past the games themselves. Animated shorts, Pikmin Bloom, and now an official anniversary. To that list you can add putting a public figure out front as an ongoing voice for the series. The phrasing of building it up together, rather than a one-off guest appearance, is what signals the intent behind this setup.

The Hello! Pikmin series of short movies is also getting underway. They’ll roll out through channels like Nintendo Today!, with the first on November 1, another within November, and a pace of one per month from December onward. A monthly release cadence means you are guaranteed to see Pikmin moving around outside of the games far more often.

For what it’s worth, Miyamoto was named a recipient of Japan’s Order of Culture for 2026 on October 22. Announcing a Pikmin anniversary with his own mouth ten days later is such a wild swing in scale that it honestly made me laugh a little.

Pikmin Day and everything else announced for November, recapped

Let’s run the key points again. Nintendo has designated November 1 as Pikmin Day, taking its cue from reading the series’ original red, blue and yellow trio as three numeral 1s. The announcement came in the Pikmin Day Direct published at 11 p.m. on October 31, with Shigeru Miyamoto appearing in it.

Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Test for Everyone! launches November 12, and the demo is scheduled for November 2 with Sun-Speckled Terrace and the Dandori Test playable and save data carrying over. The additions are improved resolution, Wan Command, shared Joy-Con play for Dandori Battle, and the Dandori Test. Pikmin Bloom gets Secret Caves this winter, along with tie-in features for the Switch 2 version. The Kobe Journey event is on November 21 and 22. The guest is Fuka Koshiba, and Hello! Pikmin is heading toward monthly releases.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

Declaring an anniversary is a party trick, but everything that came out alongside it is nuts-and-bolts practical. A demo with save carryover ten days before launch, a major Pikmin Bloom update in winter, a short movie every month. That’s a structure built to turn November 12 from a single point into a line, and you can see the intent to run Pikmin as a permanent fixture rather than a seasonal product. Wan Command is pure novelty, granted, but implementing something like that in earnest is also very much the Pikmin way.

The cleanest way in is to try the Dandori Test in the November 2 demo and carry that save straight into the 12th.
