The Good Smile Company official shop came partially back online on November 6. The catch: the only thing that came back is the ability to browse product pages.
Logging in, registering a new account, placing orders, adding items to your cart and using the watchlist are all still unavailable. In other words, you can look again, but you still cannot buy.
The unauthorized access happened around October 20. Full 16-digit credit card numbers and security codes may have been exposed, and the 2,800 affected customers are being contacted individually. This is a serious incident.
So let’s walk through why “browsing only, first” was the call Good Smile made under those circumstances, and the separate news that order deadlines have been pushed to November 18. That second part matters a lot if you had a preorder hanging in the balance.
What actually works on the Good Smile official shop right now?
Browsing product information is the only thing that works. Logging in, new account registration, ordering, adding to cart and the watchlist all remain unavailable.
Put plainly: the site functions as a catalog but is still switched off as a store. If all you need is to check a figure’s specs or price, that’s been possible since November 6.
| Feature | Status as of November 6 |
|---|---|
| Browsing product information | Restored |
| Logging in | Unavailable |
| New account registration | Unavailable |
| Ordering and adding to cart | Unavailable |
| Watchlist | Unavailable |
A staged restart is the cautious way to do this. Everything that touches payments and account data has been saved for last, which means the exact systems implicated in the leak have not been switched back on. That’s the right order of operations.
What happens to the order deadline on items you preordered?
Any product whose order window was scheduled to close while the shop was down has had its deadline reset to November 18.
This is the most practically useful piece of the whole announcement. For items whose cutoff arrived while the store was offline, the cutoff itself has been moved back. It kills off the worst-case scenario where you wanted to buy something and simply couldn’t.
One caveat, though. Ordering is still disabled on the official shop, so if you’re aiming at that November 18 date you’ll need another way to actually place the order. Which leads straight into the next section.
How do you place a preorder in the meantime?
The GOOD SMILE STORE Rakuten Ichiba shop started accepting preorders on new products as of November 6. While the official shop is down, that’s where the demand is being routed.
The Rakuten storefront being live is a big deal. You can get new preorders in without waiting for the official shop to come back. If there’s something you need to lock in before the November 18 deadline, checking there first is the realistic move.
Worth flagging a concern as well. The Rakuten shop and the official shop don’t necessarily carry an identical lineup, and it’s possible that official-shop exclusives won’t show up on Rakuten at all. If you can’t find what you’re after, your only option is to keep an eye on the official announcements before the deadline hits.
How far along is the security response?
The response is being handled in cooperation with KDDI Iret and an external team of security specialists. The site has been restored from backups to its pre-intrusion state, and no data is said to have been tampered with.
That “no tampering” conclusion ties directly into whether the site is trustworthy as a catalog. Because they could restore with product details and prices verifiably unaltered, they were able to open browsing up first. Flip it around: if tampering had turned up, they wouldn’t have been able to reopen even the browsing side.
That said, as previously reported, this is an incident where full 16-digit card numbers and security codes may have been exposed. The 2,800 affected customers are being contacted individually, but if you have any memory of paying by card on the Good Smile official shop, go look at your statement whether or not you’ve heard from them.

The bottom line: browsing is back, ordering has moved to Rakuten
The Good Smile Company official shop partially reopened on November 6 with product browsing only. Logging in, new account registration, ordering, adding to cart and the watchlist all remain unavailable. The unauthorized access occurred around October 20, and the response is being handled in cooperation with KDDI Iret and an external team of security specialists. The site has been restored from backups to its pre-intrusion state, and no tampered data is said to have been found.
On the preorder side there are two things to know. Products whose order windows were due to close during the shutdown have had their deadline reset to November 18. And the GOOD SMILE STORE Rakuten Ichiba shop began accepting preorders on new products as of November 6. Until you can order on the official shop again, Rakuten is the front door.
Honestly, I like the way this restart was handled. Open up browsing, leave payments and account features alone. In an incident involving card data, a manufacturer that rushed recovery and switched the order system back on first would frankly be the scarier outcome. Resetting the order deadline to November 18 was also a decision made around the buyer’s situation rather than the seller’s, and that deserves credit. On the other hand, the notice that Rakuten is taking orders is hard to see if you’ve landed on the official shop. Someone who opens the page assuming they can buy has to discover they can’t add anything to their cart before they go hunting for Rakuten. On a reopening announcement of all things, the alternate route deserved more prominence.
November 18 is the deadline. The place to buy has moved to the Rakuten shop.
