The Ghost of Yōtei add-ons Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted went live on October 2, 2026. If you already own the base game, the Complete Edition Upgrade on the PS Store costs 1,480 yen (about US$10, converted at 153 yen to the dollar) and unlocks both. For anyone starting fresh, Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition launched October 1 at 8,980 yen (about US$59).

It’s been a year since release. Plenty of people finished Atsu’s revenge story and slid the disc back onto the shelf. Now a story expansion about Atsu’s past and a roguelike survival mode have arrived at the same time. At 1,480 yen, that’s more than enough reason to come back.

This article breaks down what’s in both add-ons, how the pricing works, what base-game owners need versus new buyers, and everything Patch 2.0 handed out for free on the same day.

Let’s start with the part that touches your wallet.

How much does the Ghost of Yōtei DLC cost? Base-game owners only need 1,480 yen

If you own the base game, the only thing you need is the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition Upgrade on the PS Store at 1,480 yen. That unlocks both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. There is no standalone sale of either add-on — the two-pack is the only form they come in.

Product Price What you get
Complete Edition Upgrade 1,480 yen Echoes of Sekigahara + Most Wanted (for base-game owners)
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition 8,980 yen Base game + both add-ons + Legends (disc and digital, released October 1)

The Sakai Clan Armor, previously an early-purchase bonus through September 30, was unlocked for everyone on October 2. Buy in now and you miss the bonus window, but since Patch 2.0 lets you separate an armor’s look from its stats, the practical hit is minimal.

What’s the story in Echoes of Sekigahara? Atsu’s past and Nagato

Echoes of Sekigahara is a story expansion that fills in Atsu’s years on the mainland, cutting between past and present — ground the base game never covered. It’s set in an unexplored valley in Ezo, where Atsu meets Nagato, a figure tied to her own history.

The official PlayStation Blog describes the expansion’s premise this way.

A story that moves between Atsu’s memories of her time on the mainland and the present, in which she meets Nagato, a person connected to her past

The base game framed Atsu as “the woman who came to Ezo for revenge,” and only ever gave fragments of why she could fight or what she witnessed at Sekigahara. This expansion walks straight into that gap. It brings a new area, new enemies, heavy weapons, armor, and dyes. The official wording is “the event that changed her life,” which suggests they intend to show the exact moment Atsu became Atsu.

Honestly, two-dimensional faves are enough for me. But Atsu is the one protagonist who made me want to know her past. Dropping that into an expansion? They know exactly what they’re doing.

What kind of mode is Most Wanted, and who can you play as?

Most Wanted is a single-player combat survival mode with roguelike structure. You take a bounty contract, start the run, cut down waves of enemies while picking up perks, and work toward the boss waiting at the end.

Three playable characters

  • Atsu: dual katana. The base game’s protagonist
  • Oyuki: kusarigama. A key base-game character, playable for the first time
  • Nagato: spear. The new character from Echoes of Sekigahara

Each one uses a different weapon class, so the same contract plays completely differently depending on who you pick. Perks reset every run, the standard roguelike arrangement, which means the question each time is which upgrades you manage to find.

The one knock is that this is single-player only. The base game already includes the co-op Legends mode for free, so the split becomes “Legends when you’re playing with friends, Most Wanted when you’re sharpening your own skills.” Anyone hoping for co-op here will be let down.

What did Patch 2.0 add for free? The parts you get without buying the DLC

Patch 2.0, released October 2, added the following for every player regardless of whether they bought the add-ons.

  1. Beauty of Yōtei mode: a new mode built around taking in the scenery
  2. New tracks for Watanabe Mode: added music for the base game’s special presentation mode
  3. Separating armor appearance from stats: wear the look you want while using another armor’s performance
  4. Accessibility contrast settings: expanded visibility options
  5. New photo mode stamps and new New Game+ items

The armor cosmetic-stats split in particular was one of the most requested features since launch. Even if you skip the DLC entirely, this patch alone justifies another playthrough.

Summary: 1,480 yen buys Atsu’s past and a roguelike

The Ghost of Yōtei add-ons Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted launched October 2, 2026. Base-game owners get both through the 1,480 yen PS Store upgrade; everyone else can pick up Complete Edition, released October 1 at 8,980 yen, which bundles the base game, both add-ons, and Legends. Patch 2.0 landed the same day with the scenery mode and the armor appearance split, free for all.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

A story expansion plus a roguelike mode for 1,480 yen is not a decision anyone who finished the base game needs to agonize over. Threading Nagato, a brand-new character, through both the story and Most Wanted is a smart piece of design. No co-op is a shame, but with Legends already there for free, it’s hard to complain too loudly.

If you walked away from the ending still wondering about Atsu’s past, just pay the 1,480 yen.
