A Gawk-mode kit in 1/72 scale. And not just any Gawk, but Shin Kudo’s machine with a Ghost booster strapped to its back. Hasegawa has released finished-sample photos of VF-0A Gawk w/Ghost “Macross Zero” 1/72.
The numbers first. The price is 7,150 yen (about US$47, converted at 153 yen to the US dollar), the length is 280mm, and the release date is set for Wednesday, November 18, 2026. Hasegawa is the manufacturer.
And there is one thing you absolutely need to know before buying. Because of how the parts are laid out, this kit cannot be built as a standard Gawk mode without the Ghost booster. It is a kit built exclusively for the “Gawk with Ghost equipped” configuration.
It is tail-heavy, so the design assumes you will use the included Macross stand, and a seated pilot figure is in the box as well. It is built to be displayed as if hovering. Here is a rundown of the specs.
What is Hasegawa’s VF-0A Gawk w/Ghost? Shin Kudo’s machine in Gawk mode
VF-0A Gawk w/Ghost “Macross Zero” 1/72 is a plastic model kit that renders the VF-0A piloted by Shin Kudo in the OVA Macross Zero, captured in Gawk mode with the Ghost booster equipped.
Gawk mode is the intermediate form unique to the Macross series, sitting between Fighter and Battroid. Kits that tackle this form on its own are not exactly common. On top of that, this one goes all in on a fairly specific scenario: the moment with a Ghost booster riding on its back.
The head parts are the A-type. Decals cover Shin Kudo’s machine, number 311, from the U.N. Forces Skull Squadron. The package illustration is the work of Naochika Morishita.

Can you build it as a Gawk without the Ghost? The parts layout says no
Straight to the point: because of how the parts are laid out, this kit cannot be built as a standard Gawk mode without the Ghost booster.
This bears emphasizing because it goes directly to whether you should buy it. If you hear “a VF-0A in Gawk mode is coming in 1/72” and pick it up intending to build a plain Gawk, you will not get there. The parts are specialized around that one Ghost-equipped configuration.
Flip that around, though, and anyone who wants to build this exact form has almost no alternatives. The simple fact that a kit letting you display the Macross Zero VF-0A as a Ghost-equipped Gawk is arriving for 7,150 yen makes it an instant yes for the right buyer. If I spot one on a shelf in Akihabara, this is the kind of product I will probably make up my mind about in a second.
How do you display it? Tail-heavy means the Macross stand is mandatory
Because this kit is tail-heavy, it is designed to be displayed using the included Macross stand.
Gawk mode already carries its weight toward the back. Add a Ghost booster on top of that, and keeping it stable freestanding is structurally a losing battle. The fact that Hasegawa says up front that a stand is required is, if anything, an honest design call.
The stand parts are blue-gray, allocated as one of the kit’s four parts colors. A seated pilot figure is included too, so you can display it as if hovering straight out of the box. Whether or not someone is sitting in the cockpit makes a real difference to how convincing this form looks.
One concern worth raising. Requiring a stand also means you need display depth. On top of that 280mm length, budget for the stand’s footprint as well.

VF-0A Gawk w/Ghost release information, recapped
Here are the confirmed details again. Hasegawa’s VF-0A Gawk w/Ghost “Macross Zero” 1/72 is scheduled for release on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, priced at 7,150 yen (tax included). It is 280mm long and molded in four parts colors.
It renders the VF-0A piloted by Shin Kudo from the OVA Macross Zero in Gawk mode with the Ghost booster equipped. The decals cover U.N. Forces Skull Squadron number 311, and the package illustration is by Naochika Morishita. Because it is tail-heavy, you display it on the included Macross stand, and the seated pilot figure lets you present it as if hovering. The head parts are the A-type. Keep in mind that the parts layout does not allow building a standard Gawk mode without the Ghost.
This kit throws out transformation and pours everything into making one single form convincing. Locking out the no-Ghost build looks inconvenient, but in exchange the Gawk silhouette and the Ghost connection fall into place cleanly. If 7,150 yen gets you this exact scene, I think the price is fair.
Stand required, plain Gawk impossible. Check those two things, and if it speaks to you there is no reason to hesitate.
