Monster Hunter Rise has pushed past 20 million copies sold. According to Capcom’s data set tracking its million-selling titles, it is only the second game in the company’s catalog to reach 20 million, after Monster Hunter: World. And right now, the base game is down to 399 yen (about US$3, converted at 153 yen to the dollar) on Steam — a 90% discount.
The official X account (@MH_Rise_JP) announced the milestone on October 6, 2026, and released commemorative art of Hinoa and Minoto alongside it. Just seeing Kamura Village’s twins show up together is enough to drag you back to swinging Wirebugs around on Switch in 2021.
That’s five and a half years on from the Switch release in March 2021. The number was built up through ports and expansions, so this isn’t the kind of 20 million that spikes at launch. The shape of this story is a sale landing on top of a long, steady climb.
How many copies has Monster Hunter Rise sold?
Cumulative sales have passed 20 million copies. According to the material Capcom publishes as its data set of million-selling titles, Rise is the company’s second game to hit 20 million, behind Monster Hunter: World.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Cumulative sales | Past 20 million copies |
| Original release | Nintendo Switch / March 2021 |
| PC (Steam) version | January 2022 |
| Other platforms | PlayStation / Xbox |
| Massive expansion | Sunbreak (June 2022) |
Picking Hinoa and Minoto for the commemorative art makes complete sense. Kamura Village itself is the face of this game, and those two are the ones who carry the village’s atmosphere on their backs.
What made Monster Hunter Rise different?
Rise’s core is the Wirebug and Wyvern Riding. You launch yourself into the air with grappling moves, then mount a monster and slam it into another one — a set of reflexes the series had never asked for before.
Add the Palamute and the tedium of getting around disappears, the hub becomes Kamura Village, and Rampage arrives as a mode unique to this entry. Mounts, aerial mobility and a tower-defense-style siege battle all landing at once make this one of the most distinct-feeling games in the series.
The massive Sunbreak expansion in June 2022 added the Elgado Outpost and installed the Elder Dragon Malzeno as its flagship monster. The difficulty went up a notch there, and it pulled back in the players who had been satisfied with just the base game.
If there’s a knock on it, it’s that the Wirebug gives you so much freedom that some players find later entries in the series feel thin by comparison. Come in through Rise and “Monster Hunter where you can’t fly” starts to look oddly cramped. That’s the flip side of its biggest strength.
How much is the Monster Hunter Rise Steam sale, and when does it end?
On Steam the base game is 90% off at 399 yen (about US$3) and the Sunbreak set is 84% off at 958 yen (about US$6), with the sale running until October 9, 2026. The base game normally costs 3,990 yen (about US$26) and the Sunbreak set 5,990 yen (about US$39), so both together come to just 1,357 yen (about US$9).
| Product | Regular price | Sale price |
|---|---|---|
| Base game | 3,990 yen (about US$26) | 399 yen (about US$3) — 90% off |
| Sunbreak set | 5,990 yen (about US$39) | 958 yen (about US$6) — 84% off |
Ninety percent off is as low as this game gets. That price is sitting there in the same week as the 20 million announcement, so if you haven’t played it, this is the cheapest point of entry there is. The base game alone cuts you off right when Wyvern Riding gets fun, though, so the set that includes Sunbreak is the one to grab. The gap between them is only 559 yen (about US$4).

Monster Hunter Rise’s 20 million milestone: the key points
Cumulative sales have passed 20 million copies, making Rise the second title to reach that mark in Capcom’s data set of million-selling games, behind Monster Hunter: World. The official X account made the announcement on October 6, 2026, and released commemorative art of Hinoa and Minoto.
The Steam sale runs until October 9, 2026. The base game drops from 3,990 yen (about US$26) to 399 yen (about US$3), a 90% discount, and the Sunbreak set from 5,990 yen (about US$39) to 958 yen (about US$6), an 84% discount. If you want to try the elements specific to Rise — the Wirebug, Wyvern Riding, the Palamute, Rampage — a price window this good doesn’t come around often.
The bigger story isn’t the 20 million figure itself — it’s the fact that a numbered entry born on a handheld is now standing next to World. This is a game that started as a Switch exclusive and built that total by expanding out to PC, PlayStation and Xbox. On top of that, the current Steam price is 399 yen (about US$3). That’s less a discount than the removal of the front door entirely.
If you’re buying, make it the 958 yen (about US$6) Sunbreak set. Once October 9 passes, the prices go back to normal.
