Hange’s online RPG Chocotto Land and its smartphone version, Chocotto Land SP, will shut down at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2027. Refunds for unused Chocotto Points and SP-exclusive Chocopo open the moment the servers go dark and run until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2027. Sales of Chocotto Points already stopped at 10:30 a.m. on October 14.

That is roughly 20 years from the 2007 launch. A browser RPG where you chatted and adventured with pixel-art characters, it raised an entire generation on the idea that online games were something you just opened in a tab. The reason for the shutdown is aging infrastructure.

This article lays out the schedule leading up to the end, the refund conditions and window, the one thing smartphone players absolutely must not do, and the memorial projects the operator has teased.

Start with the dates. Some of the shutoffs are already in motion.

When does Chocotto Land shut down? The full schedule

Service ends at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2027. Ahead of that, sales of Chocotto Points and SP-exclusive Chocopo were cut off at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and sales of item bags, extra bags, storage, pet cages, the pet hotel, and character slots stopped at the same moment.

Date & Time Details
October 14, 2026, 10:30 a.m. Chocotto Point and SP-exclusive Chocopo sales end. Bag, storage, pet-related, and character slot sales end
February 10, 2027 Special memorial site goes live
March 29, 2027, 10:00 p.m. Service ends. Points can no longer be spent. Refund applications open. Memorial app goes live
June 30, 2027, 11:59 p.m. Refund window closes

There are five and a half months left. You can no longer buy new points, but whatever is already in your balance can be spent right up to 10:00 p.m. on March 29. According to GAME Watch, the operator explained that it “concluded that it would not be able to continue operating the game going forward” because of the aging systems underpinning it. Swapping in a new system was considered, but years of operation had made the internals too tangled for that to be realistic.

A browser game from 2007 running for two decades is remarkable on its own. Rather than keep it on life support, the team set an end date and chose to close the curtain.

When is the deadline for Chocotto Point refunds? Eligibility and process

Refunds cover Chocotto Points and SP-exclusive Chocopo that are still unused when the service ends. The application window runs from 10:00 p.m. on March 29, 2027, to 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2027. The refunds are being issued under Japan’s Payment Services Act, and the exact procedure will be posted on the official page when applications open.

Item Details
Eligible Chocotto Points / SP-exclusive Chocopo unused as of the shutdown
Applications open Monday, March 29, 2027, 10:00 p.m.
Applications close Wednesday, June 30, 2027, 11:59 p.m.
Legal basis Japan’s Payment Services Act
Process To be announced on the official page when applications open

The thing to watch is that refunds apply to points you paid real money for. In-game currency and items you earned by playing are not covered. The window is three months long, and it is easy to forget in the haze right after a shutdown, so put “file for refund” on your calendar for March 29.

Whether you cash out or burn through your balance is entirely up to you. Spending the next five and a half months blowing your paid items and playing to the final minute is a perfectly respectable way to say goodbye to a game you stuck with for 20 years.

What should Chocotto Land SP players absolutely avoid doing?

If you play Chocotto Land SP on your phone, do not uninstall the app or delete your account until your refund is complete. The operator has flagged this explicitly.

Deleting the app risks locking you out of the information you need to check your balance and file a claim. Plenty of people see a shutdown notice and reflexively wipe the app off their phone, but with Chocotto Land SP the right move is to leave it installed until the refund window closes on June 30.

The browser version of Chocotto Land is tied to your Hange account, so not forgetting your Hange ID and password serves the same purpose. The longer it has been since you played, the more it is worth testing that you can still log in.

What will the memorial site and memorial app show?

The operator has teased two memorial projects timed to the shutdown. A special memorial site is scheduled to go live on February 10, 2027, and a memorial app arrives on March 29, 2027, the same day the service ends.

As of October 2026 there has been no official announcement about what either one contains. Still, the decision to launch an app on the final day suggests it is designed as a place to keep the memories after the game itself is gone. My read is that it will be somewhere to look back on 20 years of screenshots and characters.

Further details will be shared on the official site and the official X account (@chocotto_info) as they come. There are bound to be several more updates before the end, so keep an eye out for them alongside the refund instructions.

Final Thoughts: the Chocotto Land shutdown dates and refund window

Chocotto Land and Chocotto Land SP shut down at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2027. Sales of Chocotto Points and SP-exclusive Chocopo already ended at 10:30 a.m. on October 14, 2026, and refunds for unused balances will be accepted from 10:00 p.m. on March 29, 2027, until 11:59 p.m. on June 30. SP players should avoid deleting the app or their account. The special memorial site is slated for February 10, 2027, with the memorial app following on March 29.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

Twenty years, starting in 2007. That a pixel-art MMORPG running inside a browser survived this long is close to a miracle. The reason for the end is aging systems, and instead of life support the team picked a date and committed to it. The refund window is three months wide, but SP players can brick their own claim the instant they delete the app, so please hold the line on that one.

Five and a half months left. There is still time to log in one more time and type “I’m home” into the chat.
