Compile Heart announced on October 29, 2026 that Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2, a brand-new entry in the Dokapon series, will launch simultaneously worldwide in summer 2027. It is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam). Sting is developing again, as it did on the last game, and the price is undecided.

The new features are a “Grand Team-Up Battle,” in which every player gathers to take on a Giga Monster, and character creation that lets you build your own hero. The Grand Team-Up Battle puts friendships to the test by making you decide whether to split the spoils after the win or keep them all, which is a very on-brand addition for a series that bills itself as a “friendship-ruining RPG-style board game.”

This article covers what was announced, what the two new features change, how it relates to the previous game Dokapon Kingdom: Connect, and where things stand on the release window and platforms. The 2023 game was a port of the 2007 PS2 release, so a genuinely new series entry has been a very long time coming.

Let’s start with the substance of the announcement.

What is Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2? Everything in the announcement

Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2 is an RPG-style board game published by Compile Heart and developed by Sting, and it is a brand-new entry in the Dokapon series. It was announced on October 29, 2026 and launches simultaneously worldwide in summer 2027. It supports one to four players, with two to four online.

The skeleton of the rules has not changed. You spin a roulette wheel to move around a board-game map, build up your assets by beating monsters and saving towns, and compete over who has the highest total assets at the end. Dirty play such as pillaging and robbery is alive and well, and winning by stealing your friends’ fortunes is the essence of this series. What makes this installment notable is adding a phase where you fight cooperatively on top of all that.

The official site leads with “Connect with the whole world! Anytime, anywhere, with anyone,” keeping the online multiplayer that debuted in the last game as a core pillar. The simultaneous worldwide release is presumably down to the same thing: this is designed around running into overseas players online.

What do the Grand Team-Up Battle and character creation change?

The Grand Team-Up Battle is an event in which a Giga Monster attacks Dokapon Castle and every player gathers to fight it together. Afterward, each player chooses whether to share the reward or hoard it, and that is where friendships get tested. Character creation lets you combine hairstyles, eyes, mouths and more to build a hero that is yours alone, and a character you register can be reused as often as you like.

Pick whatever you like from a huge range of hairstyles, or mess with the eyes and mouth to build a ridiculous face

What is funny about the Grand Team-Up Battle is that the game adds cooperation and then immediately plants an option to betray the moment it ends. In a normal party game, a co-op boss wraps up with everyone beating it and happily dividing the loot. Dokapon hands you a hoard button right at the point where the loot gets divided. The biggest moment in this series is always the instant somebody betrays everyone else, so the way to read this is that the official side has added one more opportunity to do exactly that.

Character creation takes the hero’s appearance, fixed in every previous game, and hands it to you. Going by the official line about building “a ridiculous face,” I take this as a tool aimed less at making something serious and more at making your friends laugh with something deeply weird. When you run into someone from overseas online, each other’s silly faces become the first conversation. That has to be the kind of use it was designed for.

How does it differ from the previous game, Dokapon Kingdom: Connect?

Dokapon Kingdom: Connect launched on Nintendo Switch on April 13, 2023 (with the Steam version arriving later) at about US$42 (tax included). It was a port of Dokapon Kingdom, which came out on PS2 in 2007, with online functionality bolted on, so the content was based on that 2007 game. Connect 2 is explicitly billed by the official side as a “brand-new series entry,” with new maps and new events.

Item Dokapon Kingdom: Connect (previous game) Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2
Release date April 13, 2023 Summer 2027 (planned)
Platforms Switch, Steam Switch 2, Switch, Steam
Price About US$42 (tax included) Undecided
Positioning Online port of the 2007 PS2 version Brand-new series entry
Co-op element None Grand Team-Up Battle
Character creation None (fixed) Character creation
Online Yes (first in the series) Yes

Some people grumbled that the last game was “a port at new-release money,” but online play mattered a lot, because it meant you could finally play Dokapon with friends who live far away. Connect 2 puts new content on top of that foundation. Building the first true new entry in 16 years around online from the ground up is the sensible order to do things in.

The addition of a Switch 2 version is worth noting too. The previous game was aimed at Switch, while Connect 2 is coming out on both Switch 2 and Switch. Whether the Switch 2 version has anything exclusive to it has not been announced. Given a play style built around four people crowded around one machine, the bigger screen alone certainly makes Switch 2 the more comfortable option.

When will we learn the price, the CERO rating and the exact release date?

As of October 30, 2026, there is no official announcement of the price, the CERO rating or a specific release date. The release window has only been given as “summer 2027.”

Going by the previous game’s roughly US$42 price and Compile Heart’s recent pricing, I expect the standard edition to settle somewhere in the US$40 to US$50 range, but we are waiting on the official word. Compile Heart is a publisher that puts out limited editions fairly often, so there is a chance a bonus-packed limited edition gets prepared separately.

I played the previous game on Steam Deck, and after getting robbed by a stranger online I did not boot it up again for a while. But honestly, the “hoard it or share it” choice in the Grand Team-Up Battle has me curious enough to want to lose friends all over again. Summer 2027. I’ll be getting ready to destroy some friendships.

Summing up: Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2 hits three platforms worldwide in summer 2027

Compile Heart announced on October 29, 2026 that Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2, a brand-new entry in the Dokapon series, will launch simultaneously worldwide in summer 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam). Sting is developing. The new features are the Grand Team-Up Battle, where all players take on a Giga Monster and then choose whether to share or hoard the reward, and character creation for building your own hero. It supports one to four players (two to four online). The price, the CERO rating and the exact release date are all unannounced as of October 30, 2026. The previous game, Dokapon Kingdom: Connect, launched on April 13, 2023 as a port of the 2007 title, which makes a true new entry long overdue.

SPOTGEEKS VERDICT

Add a co-op boss, then put a betrayal option directly after it. That is proof Dokapon understands its own series better than anyone. Because the last game was a port, expectations for a true new entry run high, which cuts the other way too: the question becomes whether the fun of 2007 can be recreated on a new 2027 map. This is Sting’s moment to show what it can do.

Friendships exist to be destroyed. Summer 2027, and I’ll be waiting with four Switch 2 units ready.
