Aoshima is bringing back the very first entry in its ACKS character model kit series. The 1/48 ARX-8 Laevatein returns as a renewal version in February 2027, priced at US$56 (tax included), and it keeps its original series number of ACKS No.FP-01.
This is the latest revision of the 2018 original’s design, with improvements to some of the part fit and to general ease of assembly. The core spec carries over intact: proportions supervised by mech designer Kanetake Ebikawa over a four-year development cycle, plus color-molded parts and a glue-free snap-fit build. The machine stands about 180mm tall.
Weapons in the box are the Demolition Gun, the M1108 anti-tank dagger, the GRAW-4 monomolecular cutter, the Boxer 2 76mm shotcannon, the Lambda Driver canceller known as the Fairy’s Feather, a swap-in sub-arm and heat-dissipation cable effect parts. The deploying Fairy’s Feather, the headline feature of the original, is still here.
Below: what has changed, what the weapons and articulation cover, and what else Aoshima is putting out in that same February 2027 window. The kit that started ACKS is heading back to shelves after eight years.
Numbers first.

What changed in the renewal version? Improved part fit and easier assembly
The change is described as improvements to some of the part fit and to ease of assembly. Aoshima says the kit has been updated to its latest version while keeping the quality that took four years to develop, and the company is not claiming any change to the sculpt or proportions.
The original ACKS ARX-8 shipped in 2018, timed to the TV anime Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory, as the first entry in the ACKS series. Its structure, panels layered over an articulated inner frame, and the wide range of motion in the shoulders and waist were talking points at the time, but builders also flagged spots where the fit was too tight and spots where parts did not hold well. I read this round of improvements as eight years of that feedback finally being addressed. Since the official announcement does not spell out which areas were fixed, the specifics will have to wait for reports from people with the kit in hand.
The price is US$56. If that figure buys a tooling revision rather than a straight rerun of an eight-year-old mold, it sits in a reasonable range for a 1/48 character kit standing 180mm tall. A comparison with the original’s launch price has to be skipped, since Aoshima’s product page does not list it.
How far do the weapons and articulation go? Seven weapons and the Fairy’s Feather
Seven weapons are included: the Demolition Gun, the M1108 anti-tank dagger, the GRAW-4 monomolecular cutter, the Boxer 2 76mm shotcannon, the Lambda Driver canceller known as the Fairy’s Feather, a swap-in sub-arm and heat-dissipation cable effect parts.
- Demolition Gun: the heavy weapon from the story’s final stretch. The largest single part in the original kit too
- M1108 anti-tank dagger: an oversized knife for close quarters
- GRAW-4 monomolecular cutter: Laevatein’s primary weapon and the core of its melee game
- Boxer 2 76mm shotcannon: the shotcannon
- Lambda Driver canceller, the Fairy’s Feather: the large unit that deploys from the back. The deployment gimmick is reproduced
- Swap-in sub-arm: an auxiliary arm separate from the main two
- Heat-dissipation cable effects: effect parts that recreate the cables at the neck
Aoshima says a generous range of motion throughout, combined with the deployment gimmicks, lets you recreate the varied poses of a melee specialist like Laevatein. Monomolecular cutter held in both hands, Demolition Gun braced at the hip, Fairy’s Feather spread open. Nail those three and you have covered nearly every set piece from the show.
The thing that worries me is the center of gravity once the Fairy’s Feather is deployed on a figure roughly 180mm tall. Builders of the original reported it tipping backward under the weight of the rear unit. The product page does not say whether a stand is included.
What else is Aoshima releasing in February 2027? A US-2 prototype and RS Watanabe wheels
Aoshima’s official product list shows six new items for February 2027. Alongside Laevatein there is the 1/144 JMSDF US-2 rescue flying boat in prototype form at US$32, and the 1/24 RS Watanabe 8-Spoke 16-inch wheel set at US$9.
| Product | Series | Price (tax incl.) |
|---|---|---|
| Full Metal Panic! 1/48 ARX-8 Laevatein | ACKS No.FP-01 | US$56 |
| JMSDF US-2 Rescue Flying Boat, Prototype | 1/144 Aircraft No.2 | US$32 |
| 1/24 RS Watanabe 8-Spoke 16-inch | The Tuned Parts No.9 | US$9 |
The US-2 prototype kit lets you build either the red-liveried first prototype or the blue-liveried second, with decals for both the TRDI and JMSDF markings in the box. The remaining three items are US$9 car model parts, and their names can be checked on the official list.

The bottom line: the ACKS 1/48 ARX-8 Laevatein renewal is February 2027 at US$56
Aoshima’s ACKS No.FP-01, the Full Metal Panic! 1/48 ARX-8 Laevatein renewal version, ships in February 2027 at US$56 (tax included). It builds on the 2018 original with improvements to some part fit and to ease of assembly, while keeping Kanetake Ebikawa’s supervised proportions, the color-molded snap-fit construction and the roughly 180mm height. The seven weapons are the Demolition Gun, M1108 anti-tank dagger, GRAW-4 monomolecular cutter, Boxer 2 76mm shotcannon, Fairy’s Feather, swap-in sub-arm and heat-dissipation cable effects. Aoshima’s other releases that month include the 1/144 US-2 prototype at US$32.
ACKS began with this Laevatein. Eight years on, the decision to fix the part fit and reissue it rather than simply rerun the original is proof that Aoshima intends to keep the series going. With the sculpt untouched, the whole evaluation narrows to what exactly got fixed and how well. Until the hands-on reports land, I am planning to preorder at this US$56.
Long time no see, Sergeant. Eight years on from the Fairy’s Feather, here’s hoping it stays standing this time.
